Restore faded and damaged photos with AI

Restore with AI is an optional step in Enhance, after you recover. It repairs fading, scratches and grain, and can fill in the missing part of a photo that came back partly damaged. Each photo uses one credit.

A green coastal hillside under a grey sky. The left half is shown faded and scratched, the right half as the photo really is.
An illustration, not an AI result. We faded and scratched a copy of one of our own photos by hand to show the kind of damage Restore with AI works on. Drag the divider to compare.

What it does to a photo

You choose the photos on the Done screen, click Enhance Photos and tick Restore with AI. Each photo is sent to an AI image model, which repairs it and sends back a new version.

  • Fading, colour casts and flat contrast are corrected.
  • Scratches, dust and grain are cleaned up.
  • A grey or garbled band in a partly damaged photo is filled in with something that fits the rest of the picture.

The result is saved as a new file, such as “beach (restored).jpg”, and marked AI-redrawn. Your recovered photo stays as it was.

Because the model redraws the photo, faces, writing and fine detail can come out a little different from the real thing. Anything it fills in is a guess, not recovered data.

Credits are bought in the app

Credits are added to your copy of AMWT Desktop, so you can't buy them on this website. Open AMWT Desktop and choose Enhance → Restore with AI, then pick a pack. Checkout opens in your browser and is handled by Paddle, and the credits appear in the app once the payment has gone through.

Every paid recovery comes with 5 free credits, so you can try it on your own photos first.

How credits work

One credit, one photo
Each photo restored uses one credit. The other Enhance steps never use credits.
They don't expire
Credits stay on your balance until you use them.
Failed restores
If a restore fails, or you stop it before that photo is finished, the credit goes back on your balance automatically.
Free credits
Each paid recovery adds 5 credits.
Another computer
Credits belong to the copy of the app you bought them in. Sign in from the app and they move to your account, so you can use them on another computer.
Refunds
Within 14 days of buying a pack, the credits you haven't used can be refunded. Used credits can't. See refunds for credits.

What happens to your photos

Restore with AI is the only part of AMWT Desktop that sends photos off your computer, and it sends only the photos you choose for it. Scanning, recovery and the other Enhance steps all happen on your computer.

The app sends a copy of each photo, reduced to 2,048 pixels on its long side, over an encrypted connection to our server. Our server passes it to OpenRouter, which passes it to the AI model and returns the result. Requests only go to model providers that keep no copy (zero data retention) and don't use what they receive to train their models. Our server doesn't store the photo either: we keep a record that a credit was used and when, and nothing else.

More detail is in what happens to photos sent for AI restore and the privacy notice.

Questions about credits

Can I buy credits on this website?
No. Credits are added to your copy of the app, so you buy them there: open AMWT Desktop and choose Enhance → Restore with AI. The app opens Paddle's checkout in your browser.
Does restoring change my recovered photos?
No. Each result is saved as a new file named like “photo (restored).jpg”, next to the original or in a folder you choose. The recovered photo isn't touched.
Will the restored photo look exactly like the original?
Not exactly. The AI model redraws the photo, so faces, writing and small details can differ from what the camera took. The app marks every result AI-redrawn and lets you compare it with the original.
Can it bring back the part of a photo that was overwritten?
No software can, because that data is no longer on the card. Restore with AI can fill the gap with something that matches the rest of the picture, but the filled-in part is made up. Treat the result as an edited copy. More on partly damaged photos.
Do I need credits to use Enhance?
No. Sharpen and upscale, Fix colour and brightness, and Crop away damaged parts run on your computer and are free. Only Restore with AI uses credits.
What if I choose more photos than I have credits for?
The app offers a pack that covers them, or lets you use the credits you have. Every photo still gets the free steps you ticked; the photos left over are listed as not restored, so you can do them later.
Do I need to be online?
Yes, for Restore with AI, because the photo is restored by an online AI model. The other Enhance steps work offline.
Can I get my money back?
Within 14 days of buying a pack, the credits you haven't used can be refunded. Credits you have already used can't be. A restore that fails gives its credit back automatically. See the refund policy.
