AMWTFind duplicate files and clear the space
Find Duplicates compares the contents of every file in the folders you choose and shows the ones that are exact copies of each other. The copies you tick go to the Trash, and one of each file always stays.

Find Duplicates
What it does
- Exact copies onlyFiles are compared by their contents, not their names, so a renamed copy is found and two different photos with the same name are not.
- One of each staysEvery copy except the oldest is ticked to start with. You can't tick every copy of a file.
- To the Trash, not deletedCopies go to the Trash or Recycle Bin, so you can put any back. A file that changed since the search is left alone.

Pictures and Downloads are suggested; add any others.
Find duplicates
Files of the same size are compared, first their start and then their whole contents.
Tick and move
Check what's ticked, untick any copies you want to keep, then move the rest to the Trash.
Good to know
What it can and can't do
- Hidden folders, app folders and photo libraries are left out, so removing a copy never breaks an app or a library.
- Files under 100 KB are skipped unless you choose to include them; they free very little.
- Near-duplicates (the same photo edited or resized) are not exact copies, so they are not listed.

- How do I find duplicate files on a Mac?
- Choose the folders to look in, click Find Duplicates, and review the groups of copies. Every copy except the oldest is ticked; move the ticked ones to the Trash.
- Is it safe to delete duplicates?
- Yes, the way this does it: one copy of every file always stays, copies go to the Trash where you can put them back, and app folders and photo libraries are never touched.
- Does it find similar photos?
- No. It finds exact copies, file for file. Two versions of a photo that differ at all are both kept.
- Is it free?
