Is my SD card fake?

Fake cards claim more space than they have and lose whatever is saved past the real size. Fake Card Tester finds out in one run.

A fake card is set up to report a large size, often 128 GB to 2 TB, while holding much less. It works normally until it fills past its real size; then new files overwrite old ones or come back as rubbish.

  1. Open Fake Card Tester and choose the cardNo administrator password is needed. The test uses only free space, so empty the card first for a full check.
  2. Let it writeIt fills the free space with test files in a folder called AMWT card test.
  3. Take the card out and put it backThis makes the check read from the card, not from the computer's memory. You can skip it, but the result is less certain.
  4. Read the resultGenuine, fake or failing, with how much really works and the write and read speeds. The test files are deleted.

A fake card should not be used for anything you care about. Ask the seller for a refund; the result screen gives the claimed and real sizes.

Failing means some data came back wrong but the card isn't simply wrapping round. Treat it as unreliable.
