Find and end a program that has stopped responding

Task Manager shows every running program with its processor, memory and disk use. Select a stuck one and end it.

AMWT Desktop opens on Task Manager. The four charts at the top show how busy the processor, memory, disk and network are; the list below shows every program.

  1. Find the programSort by CPU or Memory by clicking the column name, or type part of its name in the search box. Tick Group by app to fold a browser's helper processes into one line.
  2. Select itThe panel on the right shows its own processor and memory charts, where the program is on disk and the command it was started with.
  3. Choose QuitQuit asks the program to close, so it can save first. Press Delete or click End Task to do the same.
  4. Force Quit if it doesn't closeForce Quit stops it at once. Anything unsaved in it is lost.

Some programs can't be ended here: the parts of the system the computer needs, and AMWT Desktop itself. They show a lock in the details panel. A program that belongs to another user, or runs with administrator rights, may also refuse.

The Performance tab shows each processor core, the load average (on a Mac and Linux) and temperatures where your computer reports them. The Volumes tab shows the space used on each drive.
